What it is, who it's for, and how it compares to the traditional method

BRST Breast Augmentation Technique

The BRST (Best Results Short Time) technique, as applied to breast augmentation, is a surgical approach that refines traditional breast surgery methods to make them more efficient and less invasive. It is characterized by shorter procedures, more precise incisions, and a faster recovery, while consistently maintaining safety standards and the quality of the results.

It uses state-of-the-art implants and, in many cases, allows patients to be discharged on the same day. This is not an innovation in the type of implant, but rather in the optimization of the surgical process to achieve better results in less time.

What does BRST stand for, and why is it not “a technique” but an optimized protocol?

When people ask me about the BRST breast augmentation procedure, I usually start by clarifying the basics: BRST is not a completely different “magical” surgical technique from traditional breast augmentation; it is a protocol (Best Results Short Time) that optimizes several well-known phases: planning, anesthesia/sedation, incision, hemostasis, pocket creation, implant placement, and closure.

In my experience, explaining it this way helps manage unrealistic expectations and keeps the conversation focused on what really makes a difference: team coordination, supporting technology, and appropriate patient selection.

What does the BRST breast augmentation technique involve?

With the BRST breast augmentation technique, we aim for natural-looking results by minimizing friction at every step. I describe it as “taking the handbrake off” the traditional procedure: fewer delays, instruments designed to streamline the process, and a care pathway that avoids unnecessary hospital admissions when they don’t add value.

It’s not a quick fix to lose three dress sizes overnight, nor is it a guarantee of zero discomfort; it’s simply a more efficient way to perform a procedure we’re already familiar with.

Something I often say is a phrase that helps me manage expectations: “The BRST technique is about working quickly but methodically, not rushing without control.” That distinction matters, because it affects both the procedure itself and the recovery you can expect afterward.

Quick procedure (less than 60 minutes), small incision, and same-day discharge

If I had to summarize in three bullet points what BRSTbreast augmentation patients value most, they would be: recovery time, scarring, and getting back to their normal routine.

The surgery typically lasts about an hour, thanks to a carefully choreographed sequence and decisions made in advance (precise marking, implant selected, surgical plan defined).

In my experience, when that preparation is done properly, the procedure goes smoothly, and it really shows.

The incision is kept small (often in the inframammary fold, though this is not the only option), which improves both the appearance of the scar and the visibility of the surgical site.

In the postoperative period, the fact that the procedure is often performed on an outpatient basis —meaning patients are discharged the same day—is not a matter of choice: it is part of the protocol designed to minimize risks associated with unnecessary hospital stays and to encourage early, structured mobilization (getting up, staying hydrated, and initial home care).

Now, be careful with the “it’s all easy” narrative: I usually point out that “fast” doesn’t mean “a rushed experience with no feelings.”

You can expect some discomfort and significant pressure during the first 24–48 hours, as well as certain guidelines (wearing a bra, sleeping on your back for a while, avoiding heavy lifting).

Even so, when I compare my cases using the BRST technique with those using traditional circuits, the sense of control and the predictability of early outcomes are usually better, which reduces anxiety and unnecessary follow-up visits.

As I often explain, “BRST optimizes what already works: a procedure lasting less than an hour, small incisions, and a quick recovery thanks to technology and careful planning, often allowing for same-day discharge.” That is the “why” behind the protocol.

Limitations and expectations: moderate gains and when to consider other options

What the BRST technique offers in terms of efficiency, it demands in terms of caution. If you’re looking for very large breast augmentations or procedures that involve significantly lifting the breasts (severe ptosis), the traditional approach or a combination with a mastopexy is likely a more realistic option.

In my practice, when a patient wants to go up several cup sizes in a single procedure, I explain that BRST is designed for moderate breast augmentation (1–2 cup sizes) and a result that prioritizes a natural look and everyday comfort.

I also tend to closely examine the quality of the tissues, chest width, and lifestyle (sports, physical work). If the planned pocket for BRST compromises implant coverage or causes excessive tension, I prefer to adjust expectations or change the approach. Honesty in this situation prevents the need for revisions.

Another consideration is anesthesia. Some teams opt for deep sedation administered by an anesthesiologist combined with tumescent anesthesia; others prefer short-acting general anesthesia. There are no hard and fast rules: the decision is tailored to each individual case based on safety, the expected duration of the procedure, and the team’s preferences. The important thing is that we discuss this clearly during the consultation and obtain written consent.

I always make it clear that “The BRST Technique isn’t a magic ticket to excessive breast enlargement, but rather a quick and controlled path to a natural-looking result.” If your goals go beyond that, it’s best to consider other options .

BRST vs. conventional augmentation

BRST vs. conventional augmentation

“When we prioritize a natural look and a return to a routine without surprises, the BRST technique usually wins out. If there’s significant hair loss to correct or a need for a lot of volume, the classic or combined method is the way to go.”

Step-by-Step Recovery: From the First 48 Hours to Returning to Sports

The BRST protocol stands out in the postoperative care plan. The first 24–48 hours focus on pain management and gentle mobility (getting up, walking around the house), hydration, sleeping on your back, and wearing the postoperative bra. Between days 3 and 7, many patients report a reduction in chest tightness and fatigue; I allow desk work if there is no significant pain and the commute is short.

Weeks 2–3: We increase shoulder range of motion and reintroduce light exercises; Weeks 4–6: We begin a gradual return to sports (starting with light cardio, followed by strength training that does not directly target the chest, and finally chest exercises).

The warning signs I always check for: sudden asymmetry accompanied by pain, spreading redness, persistent fever, abnormal drainage, or a sudden worsening of pain. I’d rather err on the side of caution than be too cautious. I also check the scar: sunscreen, massage if indicated, and silicone sheets when appropriate.

One final note: the term “agile” should not be confused with“free will.”The key to BRST’s success in recovery lies in following the protocol: compression, wound care, active rest periods, and not rushing through milestones (especially strength/impact).

Ideal candidates and common contraindications

The best candidates for a BRST breast augmentation share several characteristics: mild or no ptosis, expectations of moderate enlargement, skin with minimal laxity, and good overall health. I evaluate BMI, lifestyle habits (such as smoking), history of pregnancy and breastfeeding, and, above all, the balance between the breast base and the width of the chosen implant. If the base is narrow and the desired implant is wide, I prefer to redesign the plan rather than force the pocket.

Relative contraindications: uncontrolled coagulation disorders, active infections, expectations incompatible with the BRST framework, or asymmetries requiring additional procedures (e.g., changing the incision line, glandular correction) that take the procedure off the “fast and predictable” track. None of these are absolute “no’s,” but they lead me to consider alternatives or sequences (correction first, then volume).

I usually tell my patients: “The BRAD breast augmentation technique is a great fit for you if you’re looking to go up 1–2 cup sizes, want a discreet scar, and desire a natural look; if your goal is significant lifting or reshaping the lower pole, let’s refine our approach.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation Using the BRST Technique

The BRST breast augmentation technique is an advanced procedure based on precise, personalized surgical planning. Its goal is to enhance breast volume and shape while respecting the patient’s anatomy as much as possible, aiming for a natural, harmonious result that is in balance with the body.

Among its main advantages are the customization of the procedure, a better fit of the implant to the patient’s anatomy, and a focus on achieving more natural-looking results. In addition, the BRST technique helps optimize recovery and reduce the impact of surgery when appropriately indicated.

Yes. One of the main goals of the BRST technique is to achieve a natural-looking breast, both in terms of shape and proportion. The choice of implant, the placement site, and the surgical technique are tailored to each patient to achieve an aesthetic and balanced result.

Recovery is usually gradual. In most cases, the patient can resume light daily activities within a few days, while wearing a post-surgical bra for several weeks. Vigorous physical activity is resumed gradually, and the final results are usually visible after 2 to 3 months.

Any woman who wishes to increase her breast size, improve their shape, or correct asymmetries is a good candidate, provided she is in good health and has realistic expectations. Suitability for the BRST procedure is determined following a personalized medical evaluation by a specialist surgeon.
